PRE-PROM TIPS
When can girls start wearing makeup? Clearly, this question has no right answer. While certainly a little lip gloss never hurts, where do you draw the line? It’s a personal choice, and yet the average age when a girl starts wearing makeup seems to decline every year. It’s more common for even young girls to want to go to school “made up,” and an overall awareness of makeup and beauty practices is on the rise. Fortunately, there are many readily available makeup products in delicate shades and derived from more gentle, natural ingredients, which are well suited for sensitive—sometimes problematic—teenage skin. The secret, then, is to introduce young girls to the right makeup techniques and products that serve to enhance their beauty in a natural and modest way. Know your enemy! For every woman, it’s important to consider a number of factors when selecting makeup products, such as skin type, daily routine, age, and fashion trends. For teens, there are even more considerations! Even if her skin texture is naturally smooth, the changes that occur during adolescence require special consideration; makeup products poorly suited for adolescent skin can even cause pimples on skin not regularly acne-prone.
My Tips:
1. Avoid products with excess fat, opting instead for those designed for oily or combination skin.
2. Select water-based makeup products made specifically for girls.
3. Choose durable products that support her active lifestyle, such as water resistant mascaras (natural brown), lipsticks, and foundations that conceal pimples yet still look natural.
4. Keep it simple! Less makeup and durable products will help her avoid makeup reapplication and corrections throughout the day.
5. Don’t skimp on a good makeup remover—this is must-have beauty product for any teen!
A Teens’ Makeup Kit
Fashion trends and special occasions aside, I promise that most teenage girls will not need a fully loaded makeup kit to deliver that youthful, fresh look they desire for every day! Thus, the following makeup strategies and some key products will go a long way: · A natural or transparent lipstick · A gentle blush on the cheekbones · A brown mascara to accentuate the eyelashes · In case of pimples, always apply makeup gently and discreetly · For an evening look, 1 or 2 shades darker can be added but still in neutral tones.
