Special Effects and Creative Makeup

What is SFX makeup?

Have you ever wondered who creates those out-of-this-world threats, evil witches and aliens you see in the movies?

It is known that traditional make-up artists make the actors and actresses more attractive, hide flaws and enhance beauty. But turning characters into scary, wounded, supernatural or corrupt creatures for movies, TV and the stage is the job of special effects makeup artist.

The horror film industry is required to prepare for the appearance of injuries, aging, other global features and distortions. Skilled knowledge is required on how to create wounds and burns on the ball, and all this must look real!

In my training in special effects makeup, I studied stage makeup / movies and special effects makeup. I also gained experience in a variety of special materials such as latex, silicone or rubber. Some even include remote robotic parts.

Creating these realistic changes often means many hours on the chair for the player. Careful attention to detail is required in the multi-stage process of reform before them.

When it comes to special effects a background in cosmetology or aesthetics and expertise in multiple makeup materials is required. As a makeup artist in the field it is imperative to know how to work with latex, rubber, fake blood and other materials that are necessarily used as dentures in achieving fantastic realism.

Special effects makeup is suitable for science fiction and horror movies, but they are a staple in any movie where the characters undergo a dramatic change in appearance.

For example, a character may need to be ten, twenty, or older. This means that the SFX artist is an important presence on the set of productions in the film industry. From zombies to shooting victims, aliens to monsters, SFX artists create the on-screen reality that brings the film, TV and stage story to life.
